Online gambling

I am against the legal online gambling, my opinion is based on the following reason.

Firstly, the online gambling cannot stop the teenage to gamble online. As the woman said in the viedo, anyone who have credit card can gamble online. Nowaday many teenage can have credit card now, or they may use their parents's or friends's. Therefore it is impossible to prevent them from gambling online.

In addition, online gambling will increase the crime rate. Currently, the govenments of where gambling is legal have to take a lot of efffors on the security because usually these areas' crime rates are high. If online gambling is legal, the crime rate is highly possible increase all over the nation.

And lastly, gambling donot encouge good value of making money. If people can easily gamble in their home. That may make more people addict on it. So people would rather gamble at home than go out for work. This will harm deeply to the nation's economic.

In short, I am against the online legal gambling. I think it is okay to gamble in those states that gamble are legal, but not gamble online at home.

Cause and effect of air pollution

The pollution of air is mainly due to two reasons: the factories emit waste gas and the automobile release exhausted gas .
Since Industrial Revolution, human began to build factories and produced produtions. Some kinds of factories can produce waste gas which can pollute the air. Everyday a lot of factories emit waste gas continually. If this waste gas emited arbitrary before process to a accepable level, the air will be pollute seriously.
Another important factor is the gas emit by the automobile. The automobile can emit waste gas when they are operating, therefore they can pollute the air as well. What's more, the number of automobile is incresing subsequently everyday. The pollution from the automobile may keep on incresing in the future.
Since the air pollution problem is very serious, people should take care of it and take some mesures to protect the air.

A Comparison Between Ads From the 1950s and Current Ads

America advertisements have change a lot since 1950s, we can find many different when compare 1950s’ advertisements and modern advertisements.

The advertisements from 1950s is monotonous, the advertisements have only few kinds of styles. Mention product names many times, give a lot of function details, use young white actors and actresses are their common features. These advertisements sell their products directly and they mainly talk about their product’s merits during the advertisement time. It seems that they want to make the watchers remember the products by mention the product names many times. And the advertisements always tell the product details including product’s performance and how to use them. And a lot of these advertisement use music though the advertisement time to make themselves more lively.

In comparison with the advertisements from 1950s, modern advertisements are more funny and diversity. Many modern advertisements do not sell their products directly, the watchers may not know what the advertisements sell for until the end; and many advertisements are funny, the watchers may not stop laughing when watch them; a lot of computer technology are added to the advertisements though this will increase the cost; compare their own product with product from other company is also a common way. All these ways will undoubtedly give the watchers deep impressions and make people remember the products. Unlike the 1950’s advertisements, modern advertisements use all kinds of people to be the actors and actresses. This is a progress U.S society have made.
The changes of the advertisements result from the changes of U.S society. In 1950s, advertisements mainly face to wealthy housewives while today face to all kinds of people. Therefore in the advertisements we can see all kinds of people including young and old, white and black, and other kinds of people. And in 1950s, people usually not familiar with the some products like whirlpool , car so the advertisement spent a lot of time to explain how to operate them. Nowadays it is no need to do this since these products already common objects. And today the products have much more competitions, therefore they will compare products in the advertisements directly to get more market share. Besides, the companys spend more money on the advertisements such as add computer technology to make them more lively. These changes are inevitable since competitions are much more fiercely then before.

Hamermesh(1986)

Some articles point out that miscommunication of the written word lead to poor business operating. Mamemesh had been collecting such kind of articles and thinking about how to teach his students. He doubted about the content of his course in business writing because his student seem lack of writing skills when doing jobs. So he invited some business people for interview talking about the business writing skill. From january to April, 1985, he had interviewed dozen of people involve in communication issue. The people's answers suggested that cited conciseness is important quality of effect writing. They also pointed out writing with error free is good quality. Conversational tone is also mentioned by these people. And surprisingly almost all people noted the awareness of audience as a necessary prerequisite to effective written communication. Surprising too was the mention of logical organization. Avice-president from an investment services company said thet it is necessary for writer to understand and express the corporate culture in writing. When ask to write these people took their writting expression seriously. All they were unanimous in citing good writing skills as a prerequisite for advancement in the job. Poor writing skill detract from effectiveness and give a poor image of the company and people now want to improvetheir writing skill because they realize the skill is curcial to achievement in the corporate world. After doing this research, Mamemesh felt that he can more effeciency ttech his students.

Source searching

To search the source for the "foreigners belive learn language", I firstly went to the GWU library website “http://www.gelman.gwu.edu/”. And then clicked the "Articles & Databases" under the search. After that I chose "Education" option since learning can be classified to education. Next step was to select "Education Abstracts" to prepare for the searching. In the searching fields, I inputed
"language","foreigner" and "beliv*". Search button was clicked and then the results were shown. I chose the following as reference.

Saville, N. (2007, June 8). A global reach for mind and mouth. Times Higher Education Supplement, Retrieved September 16, 2009, from Education Abstracts database.

Sifakis, N., & Sougari, A. (2005, September). Pronunciation Issues and EIL Pedagogy in the Periphery: A Survey of Greek State School Teachers' Beliefs. TESOL Quarterly, 39(3), 467-488. Retrieved September 16, 2009, from Education Abstracts database.

Drewelow, I., & Theobald, A. (2007, Fall). A Comparison of the Attitudes of Learners, Instructors, and Native French Speakers About the Pronunciation of French: An Exploratory Study. Foreign Language Annals, 40(3), 491-520. Retrieved September 16, 2009, from Education Abstracts database.

I chose the these three because I think pronunciation is a very important part of language learning. Many foreigner learners may have such kind of problem: they can read and write the language they learn well but can not speak fluently. So we should take it important as language learning.

Paraphrase

The writer says that he will suggest the president to do the energy issues quietly first. He against that the president should take leadership on the problem. On the other hand, he thinks the govenment should study the issue quietly first and then tell other their plan to do with the problem. He illustrates that people do not like to hear bad news. If bad news are pubilsh to people, people will realize it is a horrendous problem and then the situation may getting worse.

Solar Energy

Solar energy as a heat source for homes has potential, but there are some problems that need to be resolved.

In one hand, solar energy is a unlimited resource. The energy come from the sun-light which can exist for a period much longer than we can image. Human do not need to worry about the remain of this energy just like human worry about oil. In addition, solar energy do not make pollution to the environment.Unlike oil or gas, using solar energy does not produce any CO2,SO2,etc, therefore solar energy is a kind of clear energy. What's more, the solar resource is not controlled by humans for profit. Every one can access it and use it.

But in the other hand, using solar enery stiil has some problems to be resolved. The construction cost of collection devices is high compare to the cost of oil collcetion deveices. And the collection and storage are not perfected due to the human technology limit. The solar energy collectors also somewhat unsightly which may prevent customers from buying them.

In conclusion, solar energy is a kind of energy with great potenial so it worth us to explore. However, the technology of human to use it is still not mature so there is a long way to go before we can master it.

Organic Soil

The organic matter can benefit soil. The benefits can be illustrated in several ways.

Firstly, the organic matter can improve soil structure so that the boots of the plants can be better growed in the soil. The organic matter can not only loosen hard soil but also give sandy soil holding ability. These can provide plants a more comfortable growing environment.

Secondly, the organic matter increases the soil's ability to retain moisture, it acts as a sponge to absorb water to the soil and reduces the soil's erosion. Since water play important role in plant's growing, we can see that organic matter benefit the soil a lot.

Finally, the organic matter raises the soil's level of fertility. When the organic matter breaks down it can be easily aborbed by the soil.In addtion, orgainc matter can build up humus. So that the soil' level of fertility can be raised.

In conclusion, the incorporation of organic matter into the soil is an important farming practice that can significantly improce the productivity and long-term viability of agricultural land.

Overcome difficulty

When I was studying in junior middle school, I am overweight and not good at sport. At that time it is not easy for me to pass 1000m running test. So I alway worried about how to pass it before that test.

Fortunately, a good friend of mine, suggest that I practice running with him every day. I accepted his advise and run 2000m with him every evening. At the begining I felt tired after the first 500m and wanted to rest every times. But when I saw my friend keep on running, I changed my mind and followed him. Inevitable that I feel painful at the first few weeks, many times I wanted to give up it while at last I insisted. It is very tough for me at that time but I overcame the diffculty. Day after day I can run faster then before, and at that semester I easily passed the 1000m running test. The time I spent was shorter than that of most of my classmates'.

That is a very important memory for me because it was my first time to overcome huge difficulty with all cost. Besides my hard work, my friend's help also benefited a lot during that period. It alway remind me of that memory when I face difficulties nowaday, and I overcame most of the difficulties since that time.

Time management

Graduate studenst should carefully manage their time because graduate students may very busy during their study periods. And as a graduate student, I think the graduate students should do the followings to manage time.

Firstly, graduate students should make a time table which includes all the important taskes such as cources, part-time jobs, assignments. The time table should detail enough so that the students will not get confuse when checking the time table. For example, the classes and jobs sections should indicate locations, assignments part should point out deadline.

In additon, the graduate students know clearly what taskes should do first. They should set the taskes with closer deadline to higher priority, they should do team works prior to the indiviual works. This method can help student to finish all works in time. It avoids the problem that one task is not finish when others are done.

Once graduate students are so busy so that they are unable to finsh their taskes. They should try to handle this problem. For example, they can sacrifice their personal time to go to the 24-hours study room before assigenments deadline. And they may explain their situations to professor and request for hand in delay. If all possibiliies have been tried and taskes still not able to finish, the graduate students should give up some less important taskes. Droping classes or ask for part-time job leave may improve their time management.

In short, the time management is a method to balance student's acquisitions and energy. Graduate students should know how to manage time so that they can learn more.
