A Comparison Between Ads From the 1950s and Current Ads

America advertisements have change a lot since 1950s, we can find many different when compare 1950s’ advertisements and modern advertisements.

The advertisements from 1950s is monotonous, the advertisements have only few kinds of styles. Mention product names many times, give a lot of function details, use young white actors and actresses are their common features. These advertisements sell their products directly and they mainly talk about their product’s merits during the advertisement time. It seems that they want to make the watchers remember the products by mention the product names many times. And the advertisements always tell the product details including product’s performance and how to use them. And a lot of these advertisement use music though the advertisement time to make themselves more lively.

In comparison with the advertisements from 1950s, modern advertisements are more funny and diversity. Many modern advertisements do not sell their products directly, the watchers may not know what the advertisements sell for until the end; and many advertisements are funny, the watchers may not stop laughing when watch them; a lot of computer technology are added to the advertisements though this will increase the cost; compare their own product with product from other company is also a common way. All these ways will undoubtedly give the watchers deep impressions and make people remember the products. Unlike the 1950’s advertisements, modern advertisements use all kinds of people to be the actors and actresses. This is a progress U.S society have made.
The changes of the advertisements result from the changes of U.S society. In 1950s, advertisements mainly face to wealthy housewives while today face to all kinds of people. Therefore in the advertisements we can see all kinds of people including young and old, white and black, and other kinds of people. And in 1950s, people usually not familiar with the some products like whirlpool , car so the advertisement spent a lot of time to explain how to operate them. Nowadays it is no need to do this since these products already common objects. And today the products have much more competitions, therefore they will compare products in the advertisements directly to get more market share. Besides, the companys spend more money on the advertisements such as add computer technology to make them more lively. These changes are inevitable since competitions are much more fiercely then before.
